PhD STUDENTSHIP AVAILABLE: Neural Networks for Natural Language Processing (£9,000 per year)

The School of Computing and Mathematics, The Nottingham Trent University is pleased to announce the immediate availability of a PhD studentship funded for three years. The successful candidate will join the Intelligent Recognition Systems Research Group within the School. They will pursue research into the use of neural networks for broad coverage syntactic parsing of English texts using large text corpora. The focus will be to build on existing work carried out in the research group which has produced a parser that is at the forefront of this research area. The candidate will be expected to present their findings in academic papers as part of their research programme.
We are seeking highly motivated candidates with the following essential qualifications:
-a good honours degree in a Computing subject or Computational Linguistics
-strong programming skills
-an aptitude for mathematics with a willingness to learn advanced topics
-good communication skills in English
Ideally, the candidate will also have the following desirable qualifications:
-knowledge of neural networks
-knowledge or experience in natural language processing or Computational Linguistics
-a working knowledge of C or C++
-a Master's thesis in a Computing subject or Computational Linguistics
The studentship will cover tax-free living expenses of £9,000 per year plus tuition fees, and will commence on 22nd September 2003.
