Programmers and Their Ilk,
As the manager of LDC publications I am looking to hire an experienced
programmer to develop systems for the production of large linguistic
data sets. The majority of the work is performed in PERL on Unix systems
although there is some work supporting Windows and MacIntosh systems.
Any familiarity with C, C++, Python, and SGML/HTML/XML is a 'good thing'
and not to be scoffed at.
Although this is obviously an excellent position for anyone interested
in computation, linguistics, audio and/or video, there are also
opportunities within the purview of publications in database
organization, archival research, cgi-bin systems design, and library
science.
Not that you asked, but if you're not familiar with the the LDC, we are
the major provider of research data to the linguistic research community
and benefit from the largesse of many researchers and grantors. We are a
part of the University of Pennsylvania and located at 3616 Market in
Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
If you think you might be interested in this position, please check out
the official job listing on the UPenn web at
http://www.hr.upenn.edu/jobs/record_view.asp?id=00116720 or email me
directly at mailto://andrew.cole@ldc.upenn.edu.
Thanks,
Andy
