<s id="NEST_Insno.s1">Vi utfordres til å spørre hva slags samfunn vi ønsker oss.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s1">"We are challenged to ask what kind of society we want.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s2">Etter mitt skjønn er det ikke uproblematisk at barn og unge har tilgang til vold, pornografi, rasisme og fristende pngespill bare noen tastetrykk unna.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s2">In my opinion it is problematic that children and young people have access to pornography, material of violent and racist nature, and tempting web gambling just by pressing some keys.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s3">Det bør heller ikke være uproblematisk at vår livsferd kan kartlegges og følges steg for steg, både av de som har noe å selge oss og de som på ulike måter vil utnytte oss.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s3">That our lives can be charted and followed step by step, both by the ones who have something to sell us and the ones who in different ways want to take advantage of us, is not something that should be handled too leniently.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s4">Men samtidig som vi er oss bevisst farer og problemer, har jeg ingen vanskeligheter med å se enorme, positive muligheter både i utdanningen og i samfunnet ellers.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s4">But at the same time as we are aware of dangers and problems, I have no difficulties with seeing an enormous amount of positive options both within education and in society in general.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s5">Det blir da ganske fantastisk når kunnskap, kurs og lengre utdanningsforløp og verdens ypperste bibliotekinformasjon kan leveres direkte hjem i stuen eller på arbeidsplassen til den enkelte og når den enkelte kan ha tilgang til og kontakt med et globalt utdanningssamfunn -- uansett bosted eller arbeidssted.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s5">It is fantastic when knowledge, courses and longer educations, and the most excellent library information of the world can be delivered directly home to your living room or to your workstation and when you can have access to and contact with a global education society - no matter where you live or work.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s6">Jeg deler den optimisme mange har om at vi nasjonalt har muligheter som aldri før -- om vi satser på teknologien.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s6">I am, like many others, optimistic about the fact that we as a nation have more possibilities than ever - if we focus on technology.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s7">Det er ingen tvil om at muligheter og arbeidsplasser kan skapes om vi tar teknologien i bruk -- og motsatt, at vi mister lovende muligheter om vi ikke henger med.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s7">There is no doubt that possibilities and jobs can be made if we use technology - and the other way, that we miss bright-looking possibilities if we don't keep with other countries.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s8">Men samtidig som jeg deler optimismen, deler jeg også den uro mange har i forhold til en utvikling som kan lede til større sosiale forskjeller.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s8">But at the same time as I am optimistic, I am, again like many others, worried about a development that might lead to greater social distictions.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s9">Som utdanningsminister er jeg meg bevisst at vi trenger et utdanningssystem som følger med i utviklingen.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s9">As Minister for Education I am aware that we need an educational system that keeps up with the development.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s10">For våre barn vil utnyttelsen av IT som verktøy bli viktig i kunnskapstilegnelsen.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s10">For our children the use of IT as a tool will be important in their acquisition of knowledge.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s11">Samtidig gir erfaringen med bruk av IT et nødvendig grunnlag for senere arbeid.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s11">At the same time the experience with use of IT gives a neccessary foundation for later work.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s12">Bare dersom våre unge helt fra de første år i skolen lærer å forholde seg til disse nye hjelpemidlene, kan vi som nasjon henge på.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s12">But only if our young ones already from their first years in school learn to deal with these new tools, we can keep up with others as a nation.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s13">Den muligheten at vi skal ta tingene i bruk når andre har gjort erfaringene -- og tabbene -- eksisterer ikke.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s13">The possibility to start using the things when others have made the experiences - and made the blunders - does not exist.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s14">Vi må selv prøve og feile.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s14">We have to learn by our own mistakes.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s15">Vi må selv gjøre våre erfaringer.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s15">We have to make our own experiences.</s>

<s id="NEST_Insno.s16">Mye er uferdig og dårlig utprøvd på dette feltet, men vi kan ikke bruke det som unnskyldning og sette oss på gjerdet og betrakte andres feil, problemer og erfaringsinnhenting.</s> <s id="NEST_Ins_111en.s16">A lot is unfinished and not enough tested on this field, but we can't use that as an excuse and be passive and look at other's mistakes, problems and gaining of experience".</s>
