<s id="NEST_Elsno.s1">Amerika-prosjektet er en del av virksomheten til det nyopprettete Forum for samtidshistorie og skal ta for seg amerikansk innflytelse på norske samfunnsforhold særlig de siste 30 årene.</s> <s id="NEST_Els_158en.s1">The America Project is part of the work of the newly established ‘Forum for Contemporary History’, and it is designed to take a look at America’s influence on Norway’s society, especially during the past 30 years. </s>

<s id="NEST_Elsno.s2">– Interessen for forholdet mellom Norge og Amerika skyldes at vi er flere forskere som gjennom en årrekke har arbeidet med emner rundt utenrikspolitikk og økonomisk historie som knytter an til dette temaet.</s> <s id="NEST_Els_158en.s2">- The interest in the relationship between Norway and America is due to us being a group of researchers that have looked at the areas of foreign policy and economic history for many years, and this is linked to that subject area.</s>

<s id="NEST_Elsno.s3">Vi ønsker nå å studere amerikansk påvirkning i en bredere sammenheng.</s> <s id="NEST_Els_158en.s3">We now wish to study the USA’s influence in a wider perspective.</s>

<s id="NEST_Elsno.s4">Et hovedspørsmål for oss er om Norge virkelig er mer påvirket av USA enn det andre vestlige land er.</s> <s id="NEST_Els_158en.s4">A main question for us is whether or not Norway is more influenced by the USA than other western nations.</s>

<s id="NEST_Elsno.s5">At det i seinere tid har pågått en debatt om Norges forhold til USA, har bidratt til å aktualisere prosjektet.</s> <s id="NEST_Els_158en.s5">The fact that there recently have been ongoing debates about Norway’s relationship with the USA has contributed to the actualisation of this project.</s>

<s id="NEST_Elsno.s10">Amerika-prosjektet vil utfordre den utbredte forestillingen om at Norge er et av de mest amerikaniserte landene i Europa.</s> <s id="NEST_Els_158en.s10">The America Project wishes to challenge the widespread belief that Norway is one of the most ‘Americanised’ countries in Europe.</s>

<s id="NEST_Elsno.s17">– Det synes klart at Norge har vært utsatt for en sterk kulturpåvirkning fra USA og at den også i noen grad var politisk styrt.</s> <s id="NEST_Els_158en.s17">- It is clearly visible that Norway has been subjected to a strong cultural influence by the USA, and that it has to a certain degree been politically driven.</s>

<s id="NEST_Elsno.s33">I sommer fikk ”Amerika i våre hjerter?” økonomisk støtte fra Norges forskningsråd som en strategisk forskningssatsing ved Det historisk-filosofiske fakultet.</s> <s id="NEST_Els_158en.s34">Last summer “America in Our Hearts?” received financial support from Norway’s Research Council as part of the strategic research campaign within the Faculty of Humanities.</s>
