<s id="NEST_Grino.s4">Her bor bare 12 fiskere, hvorav noen loser, og dessuten noen enker.</s> <s id="NEST_Gri_071en.s4">Only twelve fishermen are living on the island, where some are maritime pilots, additionally there are some widows.</s>

<s id="NEST_Grino.s6">Den sterke nedgangen i folketallet, som tidligere hadde vært oppe i over 400, skyldtes mange års mislykket torskefiske og flere store stormkatastrofer som hadde herjet fiskeværet.</s> <s id="NEST_Gri_071en.s6">The strong decline in population, which earlier had been over 400, was caused by several years of failed cod fishing and multiple disastrous storms which had raged through the fishing village.</s>

<s id="NEST_Grino.s7">Under en kraftig nordveststorm natten til den 28. november 1796, ble hundre større og mindre hus tatt av bølgene og kastet på sjøen, og tre mennesker mistet livet.</s> <s id="NEST_Gri_071en.s7">During the harsh north-western storm on the night of the 28th of November 1796, hundred large and smaller houses were taken by the waves and thrown out to sea and three people lost their lives.</s>

<s id="NEST_Grino.s8">Og bare sju år senere, den 24. februar 1804, sto havet igjen i et frådende kok, og mange båter og hus ble ødelagt.</s> <s id="NEST_Gri_071en.s8">Only seven years later, on the 24th of February 1804, the ocean was again in turmoil destroying many boats and houses.</s>

<s id="NEST_Grino.s9">Gjennom tidene gikk fiskeværet fra hånd til hånd mellom de store fiskekjøpmennene i Kristiansund, og den siste av disse som eide været, var Ludvig Williamsen, som solgte Grip til innbyggerne.</s> <s id="NEST_Gri_071en.s9">Over the years the fishing village was passed between the big fishing merchants in Kristiansund until the last owner Ludvig Williams sold Grip to the villagers.</s>

<s id="NEST_Grino.s10">På denne tiden bodde det omkring 200 mennesker i dette øysamfunnet.</s> <s id="NEST_Gri_071en.s10">At this point in time there were about 200 people living on the island .</s>

<s id="NEST_Grino.s13">Der vi rusler mellom tauverk og fiskegarn denne strålende sommerdagen ser vi likevel relativt mange i ferd med å pusse opp og vedlikeholde sommerboligene sine, mens andre sitter og ligger på de blankskurte svabergene og bare nyter livet.</s> <s id="NEST_Gri_071en.s13">While we are strolling between cordage and fishing nets on this gorgeous summer day, we are still seeing relatively many that are fixing and repairing their summer homes, while others are enjoying life on the smooth rocks by the ocean.</s>

<s id="NEST_Grino.s14">En frisk bris står inn fra havet, tang dasker dovent i vannskorpa, blomster i alle farger tyter ut av bergsprekkene, hvite terner gjør elegante stup etter småfisken, mens tjeld, måker og annen sjøfugl sørger for en livlig musikk i dette utrolig fine ferieparadiset.</s> <s id="NEST_Gri_071en.s14">A cool summer breeze comes in from the sea, seaweed laps lazily on the waters edge, flowers of all colours spring out from the cracks in the rock, white terns dive elegantly after the small fish, while oystercatchers, seagulls and other sea birds provides us with lively music in this incredibly beautiful holiday paradise.</s>

<s id="NEST_Grino.s15">Omtrent midt inne på øya kommer vi til en liten rød stavkirke som står som et verdig monument over svunne tider og generasjoner.</s> <s id="NEST_Gri_071en.s15">Approximately in the middle of the island we arrive at a small red stave church which stand as a worthy monument to forgotten times and generations.</s>

<s id="NEST_Grino.s16">På en tverrbjelke inne i kirken kan vi lese at den er bygd i 1621, men etter undersøkelser som er utført ved senere restaureringer, er man kommet fram til at Grip stavkirke må være mye eldre, og at det nevnte årstallet må skrive seg fra en omfattende ombygging dette året.</s> <s id="NEST_Gri_071en.s16">We can read on a cross beam inside, that the church was built in 1621, but after investigations at later restorations, one has found out that Grip stave church must be much older, and that the mentioned date stands from an extensive rebuilding that year.</s>
